Science at Nine Acres Primary School
At Nine Acres we believe a high-quality Science Education provides the foundations for understanding the world through biology, chemistry and physics. In order for pupils to positively influence the world around them and build themselves as Scientists, key scientific knowledge, skills and vocabulary are layered and sequenced from EYFS to Year 6. Children’s passion and excitement for Scientific learning is fostered through practical investigations. Children are encouraged to be curious about the world around them to question, make predictions and record their findings.
Pupils develop their Scientific knowledge and skills through the six different types of Scientific enquiry:
- Observation over time
- Identifying and classifying
- Comparative testing
- Pattern Seeking
- Research
- Problem Solving
We study a range of significant Scientists, both men and women and from a range of cultures within our Science journeys, with a focus on how these people have contributed to the world of work in order to inspire our children to think about their own futures.
Wherever possible we try to ensure that children see the links between the Science they are currently being taught and their previous learning as well as making real life learning links. We believe that by having a year group specific vocabulary for each learning journey that builds on prior learning, it helps children to be able to discuss and articulate Scientific knowledge and enquiry with greater efficiency.
