PE (Physical Education) and Sports

Sports and PE play a crucial role in our Curriculum at Nine Acres

All children have two hours of Physical Education sessions each week, led by our two sports coaches and the class teachers. We actively promote a 'striving for Excellence' ethos and our lessons provide the opportunity for ALL children to work on their own skills and goals as well as improving their aspirations about their own physical and mental ability. Our sports coaches work closely with our teachers to ensure that there is a strong link between PE lessons and other subject areas, such as Science and PSHE, where children learn about the skeletal and circulatory systems and why it is important to lead active, healthy lifestyles.

All children also have the opportunity to attend lunchtime and after school clubs that are based on developing physical skills.

In addition to promoting healthy lifestyles for our children, PE promotes opportunities for children to be creative, cooperative and competitive and to face up to different challenges both as individuals and in groups. Children learn to develop the notion of fair play, honest competition, good sportsmanship and dealing with both success and defeat.

We hold inter-house competitions, are involved in competitions involving other schools and we take part in the active travel scheme, shift it cycling opportunities as well as swimming lessons in KS2.

We want all of our children to have a passion for sports and physical activity. A passion that means they never give up. We offer a wide range of activity and sports so that every child can find an area that they are successful in.

Our children are articulate in response to their physical needs. They are able to provide themselves and their peers with constructive feedback based on increasing knowledge of keeping their bodies and minds healthy, knowledge of the individual sports and techniques and awareness of self-improvement. They can say which foods keep them healthy and share this with their families.

Our children are persuasive. They encourage friends and family to foster active lifestyles by creating games and activities for all to enjoy. They know that exercise is good for their Mental Health of themselves as an individual and of their families. They encourage each other in team sports and conduct which is often reflected in our community feedback and our Sports Leaders support children to find their ‘sport’ through coaching and mentoring.

They are positively influencing the world by having embedded values such as; fairness and respect which will put them in good stead for Secondary school and citizens of the world.
